William Bankes, a wealthy, aristocratic landowner and heir to the great estate of Kingston Hall, was forced to flee England and live out the remainder of his life in Rome, Italy, because a warrant was signed for his arrest for sodomy! He continued to conduct the decoration and landscaping of Kingston Lacy in Exile!
